Once a quarter, we pick a book to read as a congregation for anyone who is interested. Near the end of the quarter, we choose a Sunday morning before the service to have a discussion about the book in its own right and how it might connect with or challenge us in our lives as disciples of Christ.
In the past, we have read such books as, The Undertaking, by Thomas Lynch, The Worst Hard Time, by Timothy Egan, Olive Kitteridge, by Elizabeth Strout., and The Trouble with Poetry and Other Poems, by Billy Collins.
The Fall selection is: Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher, by Timothy Egan Our discussion will be held on Sunday, November 17 9:00am - 10:15am in the Fireside Room at the Church.
Every year until 2013, we had gathered at a park in the area, immediately after the worship service to enjoy the outdoors, games and lunch. But in 2013 we held it outside on the front lawn of the church! Everyone got to join in. We grilled burgers, ate ice cream, chatted and played games.
This year, the picnic was held Sunday, July 14, at the church immediately following the worship service.
No summer would be complete without our annual pool party. Over the last several years, sometime in late summer, we reserved the entire Pop Mounger Pool on a Sunday evening to splash around with members and friends. In 2012, we moved to the View Ridge Swim and Tennis Club. For those of you who have been to the pool, you know that it has slide that is a blast; and, that they have great facilities. In addition, it allows us the opportunity to BBQ and hold it on a Saturday afternoon / evening.
This year, the pool party was held Saturday, August 10, 3:30-7:00pm at the View Ridge Swim and Tennis Club, near Magnuson Park in NE Seattle.
On a December evening just before Christmas, we gather in front of the church building then stroll through the neighborhood singing carols. Young and old join in and neighbors are delighted. After singing, we gather at a nearby member's home for appetizers, drinks, and deserts. It is always a lovely event.
